Oracy
We believe that the spoken language is of vital importance for our children. We are a Voice 21 Oracy school and embed this programme across the school in order to develop the spoken curriculum. Spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing so the quality and variety of language that pupils hear and speak are vital for developing their vocabulary, grammar and their understanding for reading and writing. We ensure the continual development of pupils’ confidence and competence in spoken language and listening skills through a structured programme of speaking and listening activities that are carefully planned and progressive. These include elements of drama, discussion and debate. Our curriculum is planned to prioritise oracy opportunities so that children are supported in being able to communicate their ideas, thoughts and feelings effectively and confidently, in a range of different situations.
