Pupil Premium

The accompanying notes have been provided by www.education.gov.uk

Purpose:

  • The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities      between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
  • In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are the best placed to assess what additional      provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
  • Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support      pupils from low-income families. New measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of those deprived pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.

We are using our Pupil Premium as follows:

  • To run extra-curricular clubs – arts and crafts club, cricket club, football club, design and technology club, homework club, mathematics and literacy      interventions, EAL support, library and reading club and a gifted and talented club
  • To buy homework resource packs of high quality for pupils to work in
  • To subsidise trips, outings and performances
  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils
  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognize that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged
  • Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil      premium interventions at one time.
  • All our work through the pupil premium will be aimed at accelerating progress moving children to at least age related expectations. Initially this will be in literacy and numeracy.
  • Pupil premium resources may also be used to target able children on FSM to achieve L3 at the end of KS1 or L5 at the end of KS2
  • To avoid children being stigmatised, non-qualifying pupils are mixed with FSM pupils

By the very nature of the premium, the target has been those pupils who have free school meals, but a very large number of our pupils have also benefitted, particularly with the clubs and interventions.

We use our data to identify pupils who need extra support and they are offered the places to help boost their levels and confidence. From the data, those pupils who are identified as being gifted and talented are given the opportunity to join the gifted and talented club.
